Faculty of Languages and Literature (1401–1405 / 2022–2026)
The Faculty of Languages and Literature at Kabul University of Education was established with the purpose of training professional academic and educational cadres in the fields of languages, literature, and language teaching. Since its establishment, the faculty has played a fundamental role in the cultural, scientific, and educational development of society. Drawing upon the country’s rich linguistic and literary heritage, while simultaneously responding to contemporary educational needs, the faculty has continuously endeavored to provide quality education, promote scientific research, and cultivate committed, knowledgeable, and responsible human resources.
The core objectives of the Faculty include enhancing linguistic and literary knowledge, strengthening cultural identity, responding to the needs of the national education system, and preparing professionally qualified graduates for the academic and educational labor market. The five-year Strategic Plan of the Faculty of Languages and Literature for the period 1401–1405 has been developed based on a comprehensive analysis of the current situation, scientific needs assessment, active participation of stakeholders, and in alignment with the policies of the governing system and the Ministry of Higher Education. This plan provides a coherent and systematic framework for improving the quality of teaching, strengthening scientific research, expanding information technology, enhancing the Faculty’s social role, ensuring financial sustainability, and developing external cooperation.
1. Vision
The Faculty of Languages and Literature at Kabul University of Education is committed to institutionalizing the teaching of national and international languages and literature in accordance with the educational needs of Afghan society through the training of professional, specialized, ethical, and leadership-oriented teachers, with the aim of becoming a credible and recognized academic institution at both national and international levels.
2. Mission
The Faculty of Languages and Literature at Kabul University of Education is currently engaged in training professional, specialized, research-oriented, ethical, and committed teachers and educational leaders in the field of languages and literature for the national education system through updated, outcome-based curricula and the effective use of modern educational technologies.
3. Core Values

- Preparing students as enlightened, responsible, and committed citizens equipped with social responsibility, tolerance, mutual respect, and ethical accountability.

Strategic Axes of the Faculty of Languages and Literature
1. Information Technology Axis
The Faculty of Languages and Literature has equipped all classrooms with LCD projectors and essential instructional facilities. The Faculty also seeks to record and publish lecturers’ course materials through its official website. In addition, the HEMIS system is actively implemented within the Faculty, and students’ access to the internet has been facilitated through the Faculty’s laboratory and library.
2. Scientific Research Axis
According to the Faculty’s operational plan, the six departments of the Faculty of Languages and Literature are required to ensure that, in each academic semester, their respective faculty members produce at least one new scientific research article and organize one academic conference. Following the completion of legal and academic review procedures and obtaining expert evaluations, the research outputs are processed for publication.
Furthermore, in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Higher Education, faculty members are assigned scientific works every three years, based on departmental needs, for the purposes of research, authorship, or translation.
3. Role of the Faculty in Community Development
In order to play an effective role in community development, the Faculty of Languages and Literature has established a Quality Enhancement Committee and other relevant committees. The objectives of these committees include strengthening quality assurance activities, implementing higher-level regulations and policies, preparing operational plans, monitoring their implementation, administering incentive and disciplinary measures for staff and faculty members, and preparing the Faculty for academic review and evaluation.
The Faculty also facilitates access to higher education for high school graduates and organizes academic competitions, cultural programs, scientific excursions, orientation sessions on the credit system, and awareness programs on institutional policies and official directives.
4. Revenue Generation Axis
To increase financial resources, the Faculty of Languages and Literature has expanded its evening programs. It also plans to increase postgraduate programs in order to achieve financial self-sufficiency. Students enrolled in these programs are required to pay tuition fees.
Currently, master’s degree programs in Dari, Pashto, and English are active, and a master’s program in Arabic has also been established. The establishment of doctoral programs is under consideration. In addition, the Faculty plans to introduce English language training programs such as TOEFL preparation courses, teacher training programs through the Methodology Center, and other academic and professional development initiatives.
5. External Activities Axis
Under this axis, the Faculty of Languages and Literature focuses on the development of human resources, improvement of educational and research infrastructure, strengthening libraries and digital resources, and expanding scientific and cultural relations with national institutions in order to ensure sustainable academic growth.
The Faculty maintains academic partnerships with universities across Afghanistan that offer departments in Dari, Pashto, English, Arabic, Turkish, and Russian, including Nangarhar University, Nimroz University, Ghor University, Panjshir University, and others. Additionally, the Faculty has established academic cooperation agreements with the Yunus Emre Institute, Altai State University of the Russian Federation, and other international academic institutions.
Implementation, Monitoring, and Evaluation
The Strategic Planning Committee of the Faculty of Languages and Literature plays a central role in monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the strategic plan across the six departments and ten committees of the Faculty and continuously assesses the progress of its execution.

With a clear vision, a well-defined mission, and five strategic axes, the Strategic Plan of the Faculty of Languages and Literature provides a comprehensive roadmap for enhancing the quality of education, advancing scientific research, strengthening academic management, and expanding academic cooperation. Effective implementation of this plan can transform the Faculty of Languages and Literature into a leading, credible, and responsive academic institution and significantly enhance its role in the development of the national educational and cultural system.
