History and Introduction of the General Library Directorate

The General Library of Kabul University Education was established in 1381 Hijri Shamsi (2002). From its beginning until 1402 H.S. (2023), the library operated under the administration of the Vice-Chancellor’s office for Admin and Finance. However, since 1403 H.S. (2024), it has been functioning under the administration of the Vice-Chancellor for Research and Journals. Each year, through a specific plan and continuous efforts, the library provides the necessary academic resources for students, professors, staff, and researchers. With its wide collection of printed and digital books, the library has become a valuable center for learning. The General Library of Kabul University Education houses 15,591 volumes of books, categorized into various fields, including:

  • Dari Literature, Pashto Literature, Arabic Literature, English Literature, History, Geography, and Social Sciences
  • Islamic Sciences (Tafsir, Hadith, Fiqh)
  • Philosophy, Psychology, Physical Education, Computer Science, Agriculture, Law, and Economics
  • Art, Physics, Biology, Mathematics, Academic Journals, and Reference Materials

In addition, the General Library of Kabul Education University also has a digital library, which was established in 1403 Hijri Shamsi (2024). This digital library, which is currently under development, contains a collection of electronic books, academic articles, monographs, and other digital resources. Through online systems, the library enables students and researchers to access academic materials anytime and anywhere. The General Library is equipped with active internet access and 18 functional computers to facilitate the use of digital and electronic resources.

The library of Kabul Education University, as one of the university’s fundamental academic institutions, plays a vital role in supporting its educational and research activities. By providing reliable academic resources for students, professors, and researchers, the library creates a strong foundation for enhancing the quality of teaching and research. To further improve its services, expanding library facilities, updating digital systems, and increasing study spaces are among the key initiatives that can contribute to the advancement of academic standards and user satisfaction.

Mission
The library of Kabul Education University strives to provide easy, equitable, and up-to-date access to academic, educational, and research resources for students, professors, and researchers. It aims to strengthen academic capacity, enhance the quality of education, and advance research at the university level. With a commitment to innovation, the development of digital infrastructure, and the creation of a suitable study environment, the library seeks to foster a dynamic and responsive academic space that meets the needs of the scholarly community.

Objective
The General Library of Kabul Education University has been established to meet the academic and research needs of the university. Its primary aim is to provide reliable, up-to-date, and diverse academic resources for students, professors, researchers, and staff. The library functions to support academic learning, promote research, and foster a culture of reading. The key objectives of the General Library are as follows:

  1. Continuous expansion of printed and electronic books to ensure easy access to academic resources for students and researchers.
  2. Enhancement of library services through modern technologies and improved access to online resources.
  3. Strengthening the academic capacity of students and faculty to support the growth of research activities.
  4. Providing standardized services to students, professors, and researchers to improve the effectiveness of their educational efforts.
  5. Development of the digital library, including the organization and preparation of academic articles, monographs, and other research materials.
  6. Expansion of both physical and virtual library spaces to support study, research, and academic discussions.
  7. Promotion of a reading and research culture, increasing public awareness about the importance of reading and improving the quality of education.
  8. Strengthening collaboration with other national and international universities and academic institutions to exchange scholarly resources.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Library

  1. Organizing the computerized filing system and categorizing books.
  2. Formulating policies, mechanisms, regulations, and procedures for the use and preservation of library materials.
  3. Collecting and distributing academic journals and publications from the Ministry of Higher Education.
  4. Assessing essential books and acquiring necessary academic resources.
  5. Collaborating with central and provincial universities as well as other cultural institutions to expand the library's resources.
  6. Establishing a structured internet usage system for students and professors to support academic research.

Achievements of the Years 1402–1403 Hijri Shamsi (2023–2024)

  1. Thousands of new books in various academic and specialized fields have been collected and organized.
  2. A digital library has been launched, allowing students to access books and articles online.
  3. Library infrastructure has been improved, and necessary facilities have been provided for students.
  4. Printed and digital resources have been expanded to ensure easier access to academic and research information for students.
  5. Library services have become more effective for students, professors, and researchers.
  6. Through the organization of seminars, workshops, and training on library usage, students’ awareness has significantly increased.
