Brief Introduction of the Department

The Information Systems Department was established in 2014 alongside the founding of the Faculty of Computer Education and Information Technology at Kabul Education University. This department aims to become a leading center for training professionals and leaders in education, research, and professional development in the field of computer science, gaining national and regional recognition.

The core subjects taught in the Information Systems Department include:

  • Programming and software development;
  • Database (Design, Development, and Management);
  • Mobile application development;
  • Web application development.

History of the Department

The Information Systems Department was initially established under the name "Data Management Department" in 2014 as part of the Faculty of Computer Education and Information Technology. Later, in 201, in coordination with the Examination Committee of the Ministry of Higher Education—tasked with standardizing department names under the direction of the Minister of Higher Education—the department was renamed "Information Systems."

The first group of graduates from the Information Systems Department completed their studies in 2017. Currently, the department has nine faculty members, holding academic ranks such as Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, Lecturer, and Junior Lecturer. Notably, two faculty members hold Ph.D. degrees, while the rest have earned their master’s degrees from reputable national and international universities.

Vision

The Information Systems Department aspires to become a strong academic, research, and educational center, training knowledgeable, skilled, and well-educated professionals in various fields of information systems at both national and regional levels.

Mission

  • Offering high-quality programs in computer science, with a particular focus on information systems;
  • Training academic and professional personnel in information systems for higher education institutions, semi-higher education institutions, the Ministry of Education, and the job market;
  • Providing a friendly learning environment for students and fostering a spirit of collaboration between students and the department;
  • Preparing students to be critical thinkers and lifelong learners;
  • Enhancing students’ research skills in scientific studies;
  • Systematically and continuously providing professional development opportunities for all department members.

Educational Objectives

From an academic perspective, the Information Systems Department is committed to preparing qualified professionals at the bachelor's and master's levels to meet the needs of universities, higher education institutions, teacher training centers, and the Ministry of Education in the field of information systems within computer science.

The faculty members of this department engage in teaching, research, translation, authorship, and other academic activities. With years of experience in teaching, they guide students, enhance their knowledge and skills, and transfer this expertise to learners. The department aims to train competent educators who meet the demands of society and possess the necessary skills and capabilities in their respective fields.

The specific objectives of the department are as follows:

  • Offering high-quality theoretical and practical programs in computer science and education, applying knowledge to solve real-world problems;
  • Training academic and professional personnel for secondary schools, semi-higher education institutions, and higher education institutions;
  • Providing a friendly learning environment for students and strengthening the spirit of cooperation between students and the department;
  • Preparing students to be critical thinkers, lifelong learners, innovators, and entrepreneurs;
  • Enhancing students' research skills in scientific investigations;
  • Providing systematic and continuous professional development opportunities for all department members.

 

 

Achievements of the Information Systems Department

  • Facilitating access for faculty and students to educational resources;
  • Establishing an online examination system at the university level;
  • Developing and integrating research management, library, and monograph management systems for the university;
  • Creating a robotics laboratory for practical student work at the department level;
  • Equipping the Information Systems laboratory;
  • Revising the vision and mission of the Information Systems Department;
  • Introducing a medical technology project, "Remote Vital Signs Detection System," to compete at the national level;
  • Updating the department's curriculum to meet standard criteria.

Future Plans of the Information Systems Department

The Information Systems Department aims to enhance the quality of education, research, and scientific services by implementing comprehensive and targeted programs. In this regard, the following actions are prioritized:

  • Organizing training courses and workshops on the use of information systems in society;
  • Establishing connections with scientific and industrial institutions to increase research and internship opportunities for students;
  • Creating a Research and Development Center in the Information Technology sector;
  • Supporting students’ new projects and providing opportunities for the practical implementation of their ideas;
  • Developing a long-term strategy for the continuous development and improvement of information systems;
  • Designing and implementing an online library for students and faculty members of the department.
