History of the Vice-Chancellery for Research and Academic Journals

Universities are, in fact, centers for research, education, and training. Research activities, technology promotion, and the practical application of sciences in all fields are considered among the core responsibilities of universities. Fortunately, as a result of the efforts of the leadership of Kabul Education University, a Research Center was established at Kabul Education University in 2010 (1389 in the Solar Hijri calendar). After nine years, in 2019 (1398), this center was elevated to the Department of Research, with an expanded and developed scope of activities.

In 2023 (1402), due to the special attention of the Islamic Emirate and the leadership of the Ministry of Higher Education, research vice-chancellorships were established in 25 universities across Afghanistan, including Kabul Education University. The Vice-Chancellery for Research and Journals of Kabul Education University was established in 2023 (1402) with two Departments: The Department of Research and the Department of Journals. In addition, in 2024 (1403), the General Library was also added to the Vice-Chancellery for Research and Academic Journals.

Currently, the Vice-Chancellery for Research and Academic Journals consists of three Departments and one office called the Office for Creativity and Innovation.

This vice-chancellery of Research and Academic Journals has 27 permanent staff members and one contractual employee. Within the structure of the Department of Research, there are three employees: the Head of Research Department, the Manager of Research, and a Research Specialist.

The Department of Journals has five employees: the Director of Journals, the General Manager of Journals, the Journal Distribution Manager, the Design and Layout Specialist, the Journals Specialist, and the Journal Attendant.

The General Library consists of six staff members: the Head of the Library, a manager, a clerk for Card distribution, a clerk for Cataloging and Distribution, the Manager of the Postgraduate Library, and the Manager of the Digital Library.

The Office for Creativity and Innovation, which has recently started its activities, includes a Creativity and Innovation Committee and one manager.

In total, the Vice-Chancellery for Research and Academic Journals manages nine journals—five national and four international. This vice-chancellery also has two committees and one commission at the university level: the Research Committee, the Publications Commission, and the Creativity and Innovation Committee.

To enhance the research skills of university professors and to institutionalize a culture of research within the university, research that addresses the contemporary needs of education and provides concrete solutions to today’s educational challenges.

Mission
Kabul Education University strives not only to be an educational institution but also to be recognized as a research-focused university that contributes to the production of knowledge. In this regard, the Vice-Chancellery for Research and Journals considers itself responsible for carrying out the following duties:

  1. Strengthening and expanding research across all faculties of Kabul Education University;
  2. Providing educational facilities in the field of research through organizing workshops;
  3. Facilitating access to the research findings of other scholars;
  4. Strengthening academic relations between the university's faculty members and other national and international universities.

Achievements of the Vice-Chancellery for Research and Journals
Since its establishment in 2023 (1402 Solar Hijri), the Vice-Chancellery for Research and Journals has numerous achievements, the most important of which are as follows:

  1. Organizing the National Conference on the Improvement of Education and Higher Education Institutions of Afghanistan in 2023 (1402 SH);
  2. Holding meetings with the Ministry of Education to implement the outcomes of the national conference;
  3. Establishing three national journals in the fields of Literature, Social Sciences, and Islamic Studies.
  4. Establishing three international journals in the fields of Islamic Studies, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences;
  5. Launching dedicated websites for the newly established journals;
  6. Obtaining ISSN for the International Journals;
  7. Sharing the research findings of Kabul Education University with relevant sectors through physical sessions and workshops;
  8. Equipping the university's central library with internet access, computers, and 4000 new books;
  9. Establishing a digital library at Kabul Education University;
  10. Purchasing plagiarism detection software for articles written in English, Russian, Turkish, Arabic, and Dari languages;
  11. Presentation of 140 conferences by the university's lecturers in 2024 (1403 SH);
  12. Presentation of 16 academic conferences by full professors (Pohand) in 2024 (1403 SH);
  13. Publication of 48 research articles in national journals of Kabul University of Education;
  14. Publication of 18 research articles in the university's international journals;
  15. Publication of 15 additional research articles in other international journals.
