Introduction and History of the Faculty of Computer Science
History of the Faculty
The Department of Computer Science was established within the Faculty of Natural Sciences in 2005. In 2013, the department was upgraded to the Faculty of Computer Science, comprising two departments: Network and Data Management. In 2017, the Faculty of Computer Science underwent a name change upon the request of the faculty leadership and approval from the Faculty's Academic Council. Additionally, in line with international standards, the names of its departments were also changed to the Department of Information Technology and the Department of Information Systems. In 2020, the creation of the Department of Computer Education was proposed by the faculty leadership, and by the autumn of 2021, the Ministry of Higher Education approved its establishment. Currently, this faculty operates with three departments and nearly 400 students engaged in academic, scientific, and research activities. In 2024, the faculty will graduate its seventeenth batch of students. It is worth mentioning that over 1,100 students have successfully entered the job market and the community after graduation, with many of them serving as teachers in private and public institutions, the IT sector, higher education, and schools. Currently, the faculty employs 23 academic staff members. Of these, two professors are pursuing their master's degrees in the country, and two others are studying for their PhD degrees in Malaysia.
