Historical Background

The Coaching Department was established in 1986 (1365 AH) within the Sports Sciences Division of the Kabul Pedagogical Institute, launching with commendable academic quality. However, like many societal institutions, it has faced challenges in recent decades that occasionally hindered its academic progress. Fortunately, under the current administration of the Islamic Emirate, notable advancements have been realized. The department is now leveraging these favorable conditions to reassert its academic presence through the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at Kabul Education University, under the Ministry of Higher Education, as a center of teaching, training, and research.

Department Overview

Initially known as the Department of Theory and Martial Sports, the Coaching Department has operated within the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at Kabul Education University since its establishment in 1986. In 2019 (1398 AH), the department was officially renamed “Coaching Department.”               
The department has been led by several notable academic leaders, including:

The academic staff includes faculty members and teaching assistants with bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees, holding academic ranks from Assistant Professor to Full Professor. They are actively involved in teaching, research, and providing advisory, cultural, and social services to students in both morning and afternoon shifts.

The department’s curriculum is designed to provide an integrated blend of theoretical insight and practical training, equipping students with the foundational and advanced competencies required for scientific research and professional success in the field of sports coaching.

Significance of the Department

The Coaching Department is home to a dedicated and talented faculty committed to excellence and innovation. It plays a vital role within the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, offering a curriculum aligned with contemporary educational methodologies.
In addition to theoretical instruction, the department emphasizes hands-on practical training across coaching specialties. Students have achieved notable success at both national and international levels. The department aspires to achieve its strategic goals through well-structured and applicable programs.

• Most lecture notes have been systematically transformed into comprehensive textbooks
• 100% of faculty members hold master’s degrees
• One faculty member is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Russia
• All academic promotions have been completed on schedule
• Faculty members have published in recognized international scientific journals
• 40% of graduation project milestones have been achieved
• All lecture notes have been thoroughly edited and updated; the Coaching series is complete
• Three new subjects—Physical Education in Schools, Principles and Foundations of Physical Education, and Physical Education in Higher Education Institutions—have been developed and integrated into the curriculum
• With the support of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, the department’s entire curriculum has been reviewed and revised based on feedback in ideological, policy, linguistic, religious, and scientific areas

The Coaching Department aims to become a nationally and regionally recognized center of excellence in sports coaching education, research, and development. Through training professional coaches, fostering international collaboration, enhancing instructional quality, and generating localized knowledge, the department seeks to contribute meaningfully to the development of sports, education, and public well-being.

The Coaching Department is committed to preparing qualified, dedicated, and scientifically grounded coaches to serve in schools, sports federations, the National Olympic Committee, ministries, and related educational and sports institutions. This mission is realized through delivering theoretical and practical training, developing modern curricula, enhancing faculty capacities, supporting research and publications, and fostering collaboration with national and international sports bodies. The department also strives to create academic, research, and professional development opportunities for students and faculty, playing an active role in strengthening the country’s sports and education systems.
