Department of Sports Management

History and Introduction

The Department of Sports Management was initially established in 1986 (1365) under the Faculty of Physical Education at the Kabul Pedagogical Institute. The department aims to serve as an educational, instructional, and research hub through the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at Kabul Education University, under the Ministry of Higher Education. Since its inception as the School of Sports, the department has a history spanning nearly 80 years. In 2019 (1398), in response to the contemporary needs of educational and sports communities, the name was changed from “Department of Social Sports” to “Department of Sports Management.” It is expected to soon become an independent degree-awarding department. Currently, it consists of six academic staff members teaching various subjects.

Vision

The department has long-term strategic goals to enhance the operations and scope of sports and educational institutions, particularly by training professional instructors and teachers who can meet modern institutional needs.

Mission

The department aims to strengthen professional knowledge in teaching and healthy management of sports institutions to achieve educational goals, preparing teachers, managers, and sports leaders across the country.

Importance of the Department

The department benefits from talented and dedicated instructors. It has maintained a respected position in the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports Sciences. Subjects are taught using modern methodologies, and students have achieved national and international successes in sports management and leadership fields. The department hopes to effectively implement its strategic goals as a practical action plan.

Achievements

With expert faculty, the department has continuously worked to provide skilled professionals to society. Many graduates have earned championships in national and international competitions. Alumni serve as trainers and technical experts in the National Olympic Committee, sports federations, and various organizations, training hundreds of athletes.

Evaluation and Oversight

Activities mentioned in the department’s charter are evaluated by the Curriculum Evaluation Committee and the departmental board. Productive outcomes are recognized, while ineffective efforts are corrected. The head of the department is responsible for overseeing all faculty and student activities.
